Plainville Police arrested a New Britain man Sunday, after they said he stole a shopping cart with groceries from the parking lot of Big Y. Sgt. Nicholas Mullins said Jesse Strouse, 22, of 164 Hickory Hill Rd., New Britain brought a shopping cart of groceries into Big Y and tried to return them without a receipt. When Big Y management refused, Strouse left the store with the cart of groceries and loaded them into his car and drove away. While he was leaving the parking lot, the side mirror of his car struck a Big Y employee, however there were no physical injuries. Mullins said the cart and groceries belonged to a woman. Police later found Strouse at his home in New Britain where he confessed to taking the groceries and striking the employee with the side mirror of his car. Strouse was arrested and charged with third degree robbery, second degree threatening, second degree reckless endangerment, second degree breach of peace, sixth degree larceny and evading responsibility.
