When PARC honored two people for their commitment and generosity, the John Sullivan Award recipients instead thanked this Plainville non-profit for the services and programs it provides for people with developmental disabilities and their loved ones. Approximately 50 people were on hand for the celebration held Jan. 6 at the 28 E. Maple St. center. “PARC is wonderful. It’s like a family,” said Elfrieda Buettemeyer, who is “mom” to two young women, Nancy Lopez and Brenda Rodriguez, reported a press release from PARC. For the past 12 years, the release said Buettemeyer has loved and raised the two as her own in her community companion home. When she connected with PARC, the release said, she was amazed at the variety of programs and activities available. Soon she was volunteering and contributing in many ways including assembling with a friend approximately 35 gift bags filled with goodies for the members’ Christmas parties.
