Storybags are available at the Plainville Public Library. Storybags are a collection of books, music, movies, games, toys, and other manipulatives all based on a theme to encourage children and their families to extend stories through play. The ability to describe things and events and the ability to tell stories help children better understand what they read and have been recognized as key early literacy skills. All items are kept in a zippered bag and the bags can be checked out just like other items in the library. The bags also include laminated activity sheets with songs, rhymes, and suggestions on additional reading. The 10 storybag themes are: “The World of Eric Carle,” “A Day at the Farm,” “ABCs and 123s,” “Things That Go,” “Bedtime,” “Under the Sea,” “The Land of Dinosaurs,” “How Does Your Garden Grow,” “Cats & Dogs,” and “Nursery Rhymes.”
