Letter: Reader upset with Town Council chair

Please include a name, address, and phone number and email us at  JGoralski@ SouthingtonObserver.com.To the editor: I attended the Town Council meeting on Nov. 23, and I listened with amazement at the disrespectful manner Michael Riccio addressed both Chris Palmieri and Dawn Miceli. Riccio stated that Palmieri was removed from serving on the Apple Harvest Committee because “other people have new ideas.” I question how appointing two co-chairs who have served alongside Mr. Palmieri over the past years will result in “new ideas.” Mr. Riccio stated removing Mr. Palmieri had “nothing to do with political affiliation.” This is difficult to comprehend since the Apple Harvest is now the only committee without bipartisan representation. Miceli’s request to put the committee decision to a vote was immediately refused by Riccio. I wonder why? Riccio attempted to defend removing Palmieri by equating the decision to a lesson Riccio teaches his own children; “You have to share, everybody likes to get a turn.” Sharing is, of course, a critical lesson to teach children. I am certain Riccio wasn’t insinuating that Palmieri doesn’t know how to share, since it is obvious by his time and dedication to the Town of Southington that he is well aware how to share.
