By BRIAN JENNINGS STAFF WRITER The road to a third straight Class LL title reached its final destination for the Blue Knights football team on Monday, Dec. 7 at Boyle Field in Stamford when No.3 Southington fell to No.2 Darien (11-0), 49-7, in the Class LL semifinals. The Knights received the opening kickoff, but the Blue Wave took an early 14-0 lead by the six minute-mark in the first quarter. Southington coughed the ball up twice in a span of four offensive plays—both were on second down with seven yards to go—on Southington’s 42 and 32 yard lines. The two turnovers set the tone for the game. “We knew those guys were tough,” said Southington coach Mike Drury. “I thought our guys did a pretty good job against them a lot of times. Jay was able to get away from some things, but they disrupted him and some throws. They’re very disruptive and a tough group. Those guys have been playing together for a lot of years.
