In memory of their former classmate Ruth E. Riccio, members of the Southington High School Class of 1957 have donated a plaque in her honor that has been installed on the front of the Riccio Building on the corner of North Main Street and Riccio Way. A dedication ceremony will take place at the site of the plaque on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited to attend. The Class of 1957, which comprised about 150 students, has always been a close class, according to Anthony “Tosh” Tarfano, who spearheaded the idea of memorializing Riccio in some way after her passing in March this year. “Ruth was very instrumental in doing a lot of things for our class during our high school years and for our reunions,” Tarfano said in a press release. “We were all very close because most of us were neighbors and grew up together.” Riccio, who moved to Southington when she was 9 years old and later became an elementary school teacher, helped coordinate many class reunions including her classes’ 50th in 2007, a task that was appreciated by her former classmates. “As part of the graduating class of 1957, I so […]
