The Southington Police Department announced that, beginning on Monday, June 29, Center Street will be closed to thru traffic between Water Street and South Center Street. The detour will run between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. while demolition continues at the site of the Ideal Forging building adjacent to Center Street. Access to the business on this stretch of Center Street will still be granted, and the closure is expected to continue through Friday, July 10. The detour area will be posted, and police officers will be stationed at each end to help expedite traffic along the detour route. This section of Center Street will be re-open nightly and on weekends when active demolition is not in progress. The linear trail in this area should not be effected by the closure, but police recommend that trail users are cautious around the site during demolition hours.
