Public comments on property maintenance town ordinance

Plainville-ct-sealBy LISA CAPOBIANCO STAFF WRITER The Town Council has yet to vote on a proposed property maintenance ordinance that is intended to protect and promote the public health and safety of Plainville. During a meeting held last Monday, the Town Council motioned to table voting on the proposed property maintenance ordinance until June 1. The proposed ordinance addresses a wide range of issues, including removal of weeds, signs, awnings and marquees, solid waste, storage and littering, as well as inoperable motor vehicles and unsightly materials. The ordinance also applies to not only one-family and two-family homes and buildings with multiple units, but also lots or parcels of land whether vacant or occupied, commercial and mixed-use properties, and accessory structures to any building, as well as all apartments, boarding houses, group homes, and lodging houses. The proposed ordinance will take effect within 30 days of the Town Council’s approval. “There’s a number of items in this ordinance that addresses a variety of things,” said Town Council Chairperson Kathy Pugliese. “This addresses a lot.” Town Manager Robert Lee said the proposed ordinance has been in the works since January.
