More Blue Devils heading to Class M’s

Plainville boys track, seen here in a meet on May 5, is having a strong season, with a 6-1 record after the Blue Devils topped the Berlin Redcoats Tuesday.By BRIAN JENNINGS STAFF WRITER The Blue Devils boys track and field team (6-1) added three more events to its qualification list for the Class M state meet when they defeated Berlin at their home facilities on Tuesday, May 19, 88-62. For the first time all season, the Devils were as close to full strength as they could have been all year with all of their athletes competing. “We’ve missed a lot of top sprinters that had been out,” said Plainville coach Shaun Berard. “Berlin came out with some phenomenal sprinting and had times of 43 and 44 in the 4×100, which is fast at a dual meet. So we weren’t going to compete with them in the sprinting, but it’s a different spirit when you have everyone here and it’s a little bit of a downer when you’re missing four or five guys.” Austin Butler had returned to the lineup for the first time in about a month after being out with a foot injury. Butler came back stronger than ever, winning in four different events on the day. Butler took first in the long jump, triple jump, high jump, and achieved a personal record in the shot put. […]
