By MICHAEL LETENDRE STAFF WRITER PLAINVILLE—The Plainville girls swimming team made a 14th place finish at the Class S girls swimming championships on Tuesday, Nov. 11 from the pool at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. The Blue Devils notched 138 point, tied with Suffield in a very competitive finish. Weston was the overall winner and champion at the event with 669.5 points while East Catholic placed second with 494. Sacred Heart of the Naugatuck Valley League took third place (392), Sheehan earned fourth (350) while Haddam-Killingly won fifth (345) to round out the top five. Plainville did well with their finish and beat out Rocky Hill (16th place,133 points), St. Paul (17th, 102) North Branford (18th, 73) and Lewis Mills (2rd, 46). In the girls one meter diving event, Plainville made a top twelve finish as junior Lauren Acey scored a 322.35 to pace the Blue Devils. In the girls 400 yard freestyle relay, the combination of seniors Megan Dalena, Nicole Basile, and Molly Schade with junior Sydney McGough made a 12th place finish in 4:09.03. No Plainville swimmers advanced to the state open, so the Class S championship marked the end of the fall campaign.
