By LISA CAPOBIANCO STAFF WRITER Hundreds of volunteers flocked to 17 Bernie Ave. in Bristol last week to complete some last minute touches on a Habitat for Humantiy home for a mother and her two daughters—just in time for Thanksgiving. From vacuuming to painting to finishing yard work, volunteers like Beth Berkowitz from Team ESPN felt proud to help make a family’s dream come true in their own community. The house serves as just one of three Habitat homes built in Bristol so far. Last Saturday, staff of the Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity, along with volunteers and other sponsors gathered during a dedication ceremony to present the keys to the family. Berkowitz, who works in the finance department at ESPN, says she feels excited to work on a house that is just a few miles away from where she works. “Regardless of your position or level, you’re working as a team,” said Berkowitz, who has been a part of Team ESPN for seven years now. “It reminds us to be thankful for what we have.” Site Supervisor Paul Eckstrom of Habitat for Humanity said the foundation for the home began this past spring, and volunteers worked four days a […]
