By KAITLYN NAPLES STAFF WRITER Last year the second annual Wings and Wheels event raised $24,000 for two of Plainville’s charitable organizations, and there is a hope that this year can bring in even more funds. The third annual Wings and Wheels car show and fly-in event will be held on Saturday, June 7 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Scott Saunders, one of the co-founders of the event, said a few things changed this year, like the day it was scheduled and the time extension. “It’s a really great community event with a lot of participation from all areas of town,” said Saunders. Groups such as the Plainville Fire Company, Interstate Aviation, Bristol Auto Club, and about 100 volunteers help put the event on, Saunders said. When the initial planning process began over three years ago for Wings and Wheels, the event was just going to be a car show; but it ultimately turned into planning a car and aircraft show. Every year, the Wings and Wheels event benefits the Plainville Community Food Pantry and also the Petit Family Foundation. Both organizations receive an even split of the funds raised.
