By John Goralski Sports Writer Over the last two seasons it’s taken the Blue Knight golfers six contests to break the 160-point barrier. In 2012, it took the team 11 tries to cross that first hurdle, but the Knights are off and running in 2014. And they’re doing it on the road. On Thursday, April 17, Southington teed off for the first time in a conference meet against NW Catholic. Demitri Yao matched par with a 36 over nine holes, but Southington rallied to a 159-165 win. Andrew Szandrocha and Jake D’Alessandro paced the Knights with 39s. Eric Flood (40) and Dave Valentukonis (41) scored, and Southington toppled NW Catholic for the first time on the road. Now, the Knights (1-0 overall, 1-0 in the CCC West) look to build on their fast start with a home opener against Hall on Tuesday and a road contest against Farmington at Tunxis Plantation on Friday. Hall is coming off of a 160-159 loss to Simsbury in their opener. Farmington opens their season on Tuesday.
