Bristol Police arrested a former Bristol attorney Friday morning and charged him with stealing more than $1 million from a former client. Roger G. Nielson, 65, of 26 Terrace Lane., Bristol was arrested and charged with 14 counts of first degree larceny and 15 counts of second degree larceny. He was held on a $25,000 bond pending his arraignment in Bristol Superior Court Friday, a press release said. According to the arrest warrant, Nielson was arrested after an investigation into a complaint that was filed in July of 2012. The complaint was filed with the Bristol Police Department by the estate of one of Nielson’s former clients, the release said, and the warrant says that between June and December of 2011 Nielson allegedly wrote a series of 15 checks made out to himself which were drawn from the elderly clients checking account, to which Nielson had been added as power of attorney. The checks, the release said, ranged from $1,000 to $150,000. The release said first degree larceny is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $15,000 on each count, which if Nielson were ordered to pay that would total $210,000.
