By Ed Harris Editor The Southington YMCA is hosting an adult dodgeball tournament early next month. Spurred on by the success of the annual teen tournament, event organizer Steve Silva decided to create an adult tournament. “I’ve kicked around the idea to host an adult tournament for the past two years,” Silva said. “With the positive response from adult spectators at the teen tournaments, it only made sense to give the adults what they wanted.” Registration for the adult tournament is underway at the YMCA and at the organization’s website, sccymca.org. Each team can have up to six players and participants must be at least 18 years old to participate. There is a cap of 16 teams per division and registration is on a first come, first serve basis. The tournament is split into two divisions, experienced and novice. Each team is guaranteed to play at least two games, each a best of three series. Like the teen tournament, the adult version will utilize Gator balls, which better help promote safety. “They are a great alternative to the old-school rubber ones and throw just as fast,” Silva said. The tournament is scheduled for Sunday, April 6 at the Southington YMCA.
