By LISA CAPOBIANCO STAFF WRITER The Plainville High School’s Counseling Department plans to kick off its College Planning Night for juniors and their parents in March, providing an overview of the college selection and application process as well as information on financial aid. “It’s very important that parents get involved,” said School Counselor Denise Jacobson. “It should be a family decision where their child attends college, especially with the cost.” During the event, a college admissions representative will offer advice, discussing what that particular school looks for in a potential candidate. The event will also provide a panel of Plainville High School alumni for the first time to share their college experiences and to answer questions students may have. Jacobson said there will be a variety of alumni students, some from state and private schools, including Central Connecticut State University, Quinnipiac University and Marist College. Jacobson said the panel provides juniors a great opportunity to meet older peers, most of whom are still freshmen in college. “It has to be a good match,” said Jacobson, adding that the counseling department wants students to have the best college experience with the school of their choice. “The more opportunities to explore, the [...]
