By KAITLYN NAPLES STAFF WRITER Due to Excess Cost reimbursement from the state, and savings on the district’s energy program, the Board of Education is proposing a 0.67 percent increase on its allotted budget for this fiscal year, totaling $33,616,799, or a dollar increase of $223,261. Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Kitching proposed a budget of $33,997,599 recently, which was cut down thanks to savings from the current fiscal year with an expected $730,000 in Excess Cost reimbursement, which is more than what was anticipated. With the $250,000 technology replacement offset and the $130,800 savings in the Energy Education Contract offset, the board’s budget was able to remain below a 1 percent increase. The board unanimously passed its budget at its monthly meeting last Monday.
