By Tammi Naudus Arc of Southington members with some of the pet items that were collected.By Ed Harris Editor A love for animals has led The Arc of Southington to collect various pet items to donate to the Blanket and Bowls program. Arc employees and patrons helped collect pet food, cat litter, clean blankets and towels, food bowls and toys. The donations were dropped off at Pet Playhouse on Meriden Waterbury Turnpike last week. “Animal shelters and pounds are overflowing with animals awaiting the opportunity at the chance of a home,” said Carolyn Williams, quality assurance director at Arc of Southington. “While they wait, a simple source of comfort like a little blanket to curl up on, instead of the hard, cement kennel floor, can do wonders for a frightened animal.” Arc is a drop off site and collection point for the town’s food pantry, but this is the first time the organization has participated in a collection for shelter pets. “The beauty of doing this type of collection is that many needed items can be found in your linen closet and are no longer being used,” Williams said.
