PARC honors local supporters with John Sullivan Awards

By TAYLOR HARTZ STAFF WRITER PARC will celebrate its 6th annual John Sullivan awards on Jan. 6, honoring two major supporters of the organization. The annual ceremony honors one individual and one business – this year Embroidery A2Z and parent volunteer Freida Buttemeyer will receive the awards. Frank Robinson, a PARC board member who has been active in the organization for more than 20-years, said the awards aim to recognize those who help the non-profit fulfill their mission of supporting Plainville residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The honor is named for former board member and long-time support John Sullivan, who Robinson said helped introduce PARC to the Plainville community and many local businesses. “He always wanted to do good things for the special needs citizens,” said Robinson of Sullivan, a top fund raiser for the group. Embroidery A2Z, located on East Street, creates personalized apparel and products for many businesses, schools, and individuals in the Plainville community. The business has made several donations to PARC just this year, including t-shirts for their walk-a-thon and bowl-a-thon fundraisers. “They have been supporting us ever since they’ve been in business,” said Robinson.
