Letter: Reader is unhappy with Zoni, 2015 state legislative session

David Zoni said, “As I look back at the 2015 legislative session, I am proud of the steps the legislature took to grow our state’s economy.” Let’s follow the steps Zoni, and fellow Democrats under Governor Dannel Malloy, took to grow our economy. Without a single Republican vote, they passed the second largest tax hike in state history, which came only four years after the same group imposed the largest tax hike ever seen. This time around we are subject to a retroactive increase on the income tax, and a reduction of the property tax credit, as well as a tax on carwashes, parking, tap water, websites, surgeries, and an increase on the wedding tax. Democrats were warned by business leaders and Republicans about the negative effects the Unitary Tax would have on business expansion and retention in our State, but they went ahead with it anyway. As a result General Electric immediately began looking to relocate.
