The United Way of West Central Connecticut is seeking volunteers to work in its free tax preparation site. No tax experience needed. This site serves the communities of Bristol, Burlington, Plainville and Plymouth/Terryville. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program provides low- to moderate- income workers and families, people with disabilities, and seniors with free tax preparation and filing. With your help, United Way can bring unclaimed tax credits to these individuals. Volunteer tax preparers and greeters are needed for this year. Tax preparers assist people with completing their federal and state tax returns using an online tax software program. Greeters welcome clients, make sure they have all the necessary paperwork, and get the materials in order for the tax preparers. Tax preparers and greeters receive free training and are certified by the IRS. To volunteer, you must be willing to commit four hours per week during the tax season (last week of January through mid-April, hours are Tuesdays from 4 to 8 p.m. or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.); must be comfortable working with diverse populations; most positions require computer use; bilingual skills a plus; all training is provided at no cost.
