Plainville’s Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 3

holiday listingsBy TAYLOR HARTZ STAFF WRITER Plainville is planning to kick off the town’s holiday festivities with its 23rd annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Residents are invited to gather outside the firehouse on Dec. 3 for an evening full of holiday cheer sponsored by the Plainville Chamber of Commerce. Members of the chorus and band at Plainville High School will perform a variety of Christmas carols, followed by speeches from town officials, including Town Manager Robert Lee and representatives from the Police and Fire departments. At 5 p.m., Linden Elementary School first-grader Olivia Leonetti will flip the switch to light up the tree and start the celebrations. Once the tree is lit, children can line up inside the firehouse, where they can expect a special visit from Santa. Throughout the night, the Plainville Rotary Club will be sponsoring free horse-drawn carriage rides around town. The Plainville Public Library will offer a full calendar of events at their Holiday Open House from 6 to 8 p.m, with refreshments provided by the Friends of the Plainville Public Library.
