Chippens Hill help homeless in ‘Socktober’

socktober 2   The sixth graders on the Gold Team at Chippens Hill Middle School were inspired to make a difference throughout the month of October. The inspiration came from You Tube sensation, Kid President, who inspires kids to get busy changing the world for the better. A press release from the school explained the inspired sixth graders wanted to make sure Bristol’s less fortunate, who may have fallen on hard times and perhaps even found themselves homeless, would not have cold feet this winter. How would the students keep homeless people’s feet warm? – by making sure they have plenty of socks. The students began a sock drive to collect as many new socks as they could from their fellow peers at Chippens Hill, explained the release. The Gold Team sixth graders formed committees to divide up all the tasks involved in getting the community service project off the ground. The Foot Patrol committee was responsible for placing bins in each hallway and collecting the donations on a weekly basis. The Marketing committees created the posters and made daily announcements on the school intercom to keep the Chippens Hill Middle School population inspired to keep their donations coming.
