By BRIAN JENNINGS STAFF WRITER The girls swimming and diving team (1-1) started their week in historical fashion by defeating Berlin (2-1) for the first time in 16 years, 98-88, at home on Tuesday, Sept. 22. “We have a lot of veteran leadership on the team this year, who wanted to make their last chance to get the win against Berlin count,” said Plainville coach Chris Zagorski. “They always seem to reach another level of intensity when we swim them, and I know both myself and the Berlin coach were prepared for a very competitive meet.” Sydney McGough was a double winner in the 200 individual medley (2:29.79) and 100 backstroke (1:03.28). Lydia Weinberg finished first (1:03.00) in the 100 freestyle. Weinberg returned to help her teammates Abby McGough, Ally Sgroi, and Audrey Gediman captured first (2:01.47) in the 200 freestyle relay. Caitlin Erb took first (1:22.34) in the 100 breaststroke.
