By TAYLOR HARTZ STAFF WRITER For 20 days last month, the Main Street Community Foundation, Inc., surprised 20 local nonprofits with $20,000 in grants. Among the 20 chosen were four Southington based organizations – The Arc of Southington, Inc., Bread for Life, Inc., the Margaret C. Griffin Child Development Center of Southington, and United Way of Southington, Inc. The foundation, according to their website, is “committed to assisting donors who wish to build charitable endowments” and supports community organizations in Southington, Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, and Wolcott. Founded in 1995, the foundation announced the 20 $1,000 grants to celebrate 20 years of giving back to these communities. The funding for each was provided by the Bristol Savings Bank Fund ,the first established by the group. “Distributing 20 grants from this fund is a great way to give back to the communities and recognize our community roots,” said Susan Sadecki, president and CEO of the Foundation, in a press release. Sandy Amato, executive director of The Arc of Southington, Inc., said Arc hopes to use the money to bring in college students from a marketing program to update the agency’s brochure.
