BJ’s donates to Southington Bread for Life

Representatives of the local BJ’s wholesale club recently presented a ceremonial check and gift cards totaling $1,700 to Southington Bread for Life. Shari Stary, damaged defective returns supervisor, said in a press release from Bread for Life that BJ’s holds a commitment to supporting local organizations and services that help the underserved population. Employees play a large role in fundraising by participating in various “dress down” days such as Flannel Shirt Friday during which they contribute $1 per day. Stary said the company was glad to establish this connection with Bread for Life and hopes it will be an ongoing relationship. Prior to the check presentation on July 14, Eldon Hafford, Bread for Life executive director, had the opportunity to discuss the non-profit’s summer feeding program with Stary and other BJ’s representatives. He highlighted the meal program that provides free pre-packaged “grab ‘n’ go” nutritional lunches to youth 18 and younger at Wheeler Village, Summer Brook Apartments and Memorial Park.
