By TAYLOR HARTZSTAFF WRITER Many Southington residents found themselves spending a day without access to their phone, internet, and cable services on Tuesday, Aug. 11, when Cox Communications experienced an outage for more than five hours. Dana Nolfe, Director of Communications for Cox, said the outage was caused by a storm that brought down two trees, damaging power lines and the company’s fiber network. Nolfe said that several fallen poles, cables, and tree limbs in area streets prolonged the outage. The company waited for street clean up and power line repairs to be completed before beginning their own repairs. “It was several hours before the area was safe for us to being our work due to the tree removal and power line restoration,” said Nolfe. Service was lost across Southington and parts of Meriden at approximately 10:30 a.m., and was restored to the area by 4 p.m.
