Hatton Elementary School was presented with a grant from Tanger Outlets in the amount of $1,800 in mid-June. The grant was submitted by Amber Smith, who is a third grade teacher in Southington and also a parent of two boys who attend Hatton School. The TangerKIDS Grants program is designed to assist schools by providing grants for special projects, needed programs, or equipment. The Hatton grant was called “Basketball for All.” The money will go toward purchasing an adaptive basketball hoop system from ProDunk Hoops. The basketball will allow for all students to participate in the game of basketball. Smith said that her inspiration for writing the grant came from her son, Ryan, who has cerebral palsy. Ryan’s favorite thing to do is play basketball, and the adaptive hoop is easily adjustable to allow for students of all abilities and ages to play.
