By MICHAEL LETENDRE STAFF WRITER PLAINVILLE – In head coach Jim Tufts final game as coach of the Plainville American Legion baseball team, his squad made sure he went out as a winner. And they did it in style. Post 33 smashed state tournament contender West Hartford by 10 runs in a mercy-ruled 11-1 romp on Thursday, July 16 from Plainville High School. “Not bad,” said Plainville coach Jim Tufts on Plainville’s finish to the season. “I would have loved to say we scripted it and we’re going out on a high note as my last game as a coach here. Who would have thought this is the way I went out?” Plainville finishing 9-15 in Zone 7 play and was just one game away from state tournament qualification. And frankly, Post 33 soundly defeated West Hartford from pillar to post. Post 33, the visitors in the make-up affair, threw up five runs in the top of the first and captured the early momentum.
