Registration is underway for the eight annual Homemade Wine Contest. The annual contest his held as part of the Southington Italian-American Festival sponsored by the Sons of Italy and Southington UNICO. The festival will take place July 24 to July 26 on the lower portion of Center Street, and the wine contest will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. The event, sponsored by Northeast Produce of Hartford, is free to enter and participants are able to submit more than one bottle of red and/or white as long as each entry is a different make and year. Bottled entries may be dropped off at Northeast Produce Regional Market in Hartford or Plainville on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Verizon Wireless, 750 Queen Street, Southington, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The deadline for bottled entries is Wednesday, July 22. Winners need not be present at the time of contest judging. The festival, entering its 11th season, begins Friday at 5 p.m. The three-day event will consist of food tents and booths featuring diverse offerings, live entertainment, a homemade wine contest, a children’s carnival, and more.
