The Southington Public Library has announced the following programs for June. If registration is required, contact the Reference/Information Department at (860) 628-0947, ext. 6552 or visit the library’s website at www.southingtonlibrary.org and click on “Calendar.” MINDFUL MEDITATION—HOW TO BEGIN. Tuesday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Southington Library program room. Bill Lynch, a meditation leader, returns to the library to conduct mindful meditation, a program designed to alleviate psychological stress. Mindful meditation has been shown to quell anxiety symptoms in people with generalized anxiety disorder, a condition marked by hard-to-control worries, poor sleep, and irritability. Lynch has trained at Vipassana Meditation Center in Shelburne, Mass. and received his certification from Transformation Meditation. He currently leads meditation sessions at Bloom Yoga and the Southington-Cheshire YMCA. Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear and bring a yoga mat or thick towel for your use. Registration is required. SUMMER NIGHT WRITERS. Wednesdays, June 3 to June 24, 6:30 p.m. Attendance at each writing workshop is encouraged but not required. Each workshop will focus on a different form of writing, including poetry (June 3), non-fiction (June 10), fiction (June 17), and the last opportunity to get feedback on writing samples (June 24).
