By TAYLOR HARTZ STAFF WRITER Brummett, took to the microphone to speak on behalf of this year’s recipient of the Dick Ronalter Mentor of the Year Award. Gygruc said she nominated Dr. Brummett for the honor for being “committed to her profession and able to inspire anyone she comes in contact with.” Dr. Brummett has worked as an instructional leader and supervisor in special education since 1997 and has served as the director of special education for seven years. In 2010, Brummett became assistant superintendent, and while excelling in the educational field she has taken the time to serve as a mentor to two young girls in Plainville. For five years, Dr. Brummett has mentored Tia McCarthy, a fourth grade student at Linden Elementary School, and Sarah Jusa, a seventh grader at Middle School of Plainville. Brummett meets with each girl once a week to spend quality time baking, playing outside, and discussing school and future goals. Both McCarthy and Jusa spoke on behalf of their time spent with Dr. Brummet, saying that her mentorship inspires them and they hope it continues Dr. Brumett dedicated her acceptance of the award to celebrating the hobbies and talents of the each girl, […]
