Locals do not disappoint at invitational

By MICHAEL LETENDRE STAFF WRITER DURHAM – The Plainville girls and boys track team participated in the 2015 Marty Roberts Invitational this past Saturday from Coginchaug Regional High School in Durham on Saturday, May 2. And the locals did not disappoint. The boys had a couple first place finishes and did quite well at the multi-team event. Overall, the Blue Devils took third behind a finish of 73 points, 14 behind second place, host Coginchaug and overall victor Old Saybrook, who tallied 141 points to win the event. The girls battled and finished 16th out of the 17 teams with two total points. On the boys front, Plainville had several athletes finish in the top five of their respective events. Crafty and clever Omar Abdelsame won the two mile event in under 10 minutes, finishing the race in 9:59.88; while in the grueling 800 meters, Quentin Lux won the race in 2:07.46 Brendan West took second in the javelin (147’09.00”). Dante Correa sprinted his way to a second place performance in the 100 meters (11.53 seconds); while Abdelsame took second in the mile challenge (4:36.86).
