Alyssa Marin, 25, of Hartford turned herself into Southington Police on April 28 at 3:30 p.m. after learning there was an active warrant for her arrest. Marin was processed and charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, unsafe tires, and failure to drive right. She was released on a $5,000 bond and was given a May 11 appearance date in Bristol Superior Court. The warrant was issued following a Southington Police Department investigation of a fatal collision on Laning Street on Jan. 3, 2015 involving two pedestrians on Laning Street, just west of Doral Lane. Police, fire fighters, and an ambulance were dispatched just before 3 p.m. to respond to an emergency call. A pedestrian, Garrett Costello Sr., died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Costello’s wife, Cindy, also suffered serious injuries in the collision. Investigators said in a press release that Marin’s failure to maintain safe tires caused her to lose control of the vehicle due to the inclement weather conditions.
