Girls look toward post season; boys have options

By BRIAN JENNINGS STAFF WRITER The Plainville Blue Devils girls tennis team just missed out on a postseason birth after losing their last match to Bristol Central, finishing with a 7-9 (2-5) regular season record and a fifth-place finish in the CCC South. The Devils are losing No.3-ranked singles player, Giovanna Rossetti, Alicia Sliwka, and Ashley Nalewajek to graduation. The Devils had 35 girls come out for the team this year, which include the return of seven seniors, seven juniors, 13 sophomores, and seven freshmen. Plainville coach Chuck Radda said some of the new girls, especially the freshmen, look very promising and may get to play this year. “We might be a little stronger and deeper this year, but some of the teams are going to give us problems that always do,” said Radda. The Bristol schools, Berlin, Middletown, and non-divisional teams like Wethersfield and Conard are going to be the top competition for the Devils this season. Radda said his Devils have to at least do better against tennis towns similar to Plainville, like Meriden. Radda named seniors Sarah Abdelsame, Agata Baltyn, Emilia Filipkowska as team captains.
