Track teams look to compete at highest level

Omar AbdelsameBy BRIAN JENNINGS STAFF WRITER The Plainville Blue Devils boys outdoor track and field team finished 25th overall out of 32 schools in last year’s Class M State Meet. After qualifying nine athletes, the Devils were three points away from a top-20 finish. Head coach Shaun Berard said his guys did well last season. “We had a lot guys that kept improving as the season went on,” said Berard. “They were still competing at their highest level at the class meet.” The Devils are losing four athletes to graduation heading into this season, including state qualifiers Alec Maisonet and Nicholas Boutin. Maisonet competed in the 100m and finished in 11th in the javelin throw at the state meet. Boutin helped the 4x400m relay team to a 10th-place finish at the state meet. The Devils welcome back 12 seniors, 11 juniors, eight sophomores, and 10 freshmen to their squad. “Our team really wants to peak for the conference meet,” the coach said. “It’s really tough to beat Bristol Central because they have almost twice the enrollment that we do.
