Plainville resident new executive director of PARC

Erica Donovan PARC, which offers family centered services to people with developmental disabilities in central Connecticut, has announced its new executive director, Plainville resident Erica Donovan. Donovan, who took the position after serving in a 10-year career at the Wheeler YMCA, began as executive director on Sept. 2. She, her husband, and two daughters have lived in Plainville for 16 years. Her new role has been a learning experience about individuals who have developmental disabilities. Often, people erroneously assume that those with special needs are all the same, she said, however, all people have unique personalities, needs and dreams. Since Donovan began her job, she has met each participant and their families to get to know them personally and build relationships. She has also joined in many of the activities and special events. PARC, located at 28 E. Maple St. in Plainville, offers programs and services to people throughout central Connecticut. Currently, participants come from Plainville, Bristol, and New Britain, and range in age from 15 to 55. Regular programming includes Healthy Living activities such as tech night, craft night, swimming at the YMCA and basketball at Linden Street School.
