The Southington Library will host a night of story telling at the Aqua Turf on Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. The event is part of the 2015 Southington Reads program. New York Times Best-Selling author Chris Bohjalian will discuss his book, “The Sandcastle Girls,” which is inspired by the author’s grandparents’ experience during the 1915 Armenian genocide. In this heart-wrenching novel, the author explores the suffering and atrocities of that time with astounding precision, compassion and grace. “How do a million and a half people die with nobody knowing?” ponders Laura Petrosian, the book’s modern-day narrator. The answer, she will discover, is really very simple: “You kill them in the middle of nowhere.” In 2012, “The Sandcastle Girls” was named a Washington Post Best Book, a Library Journal Best Book, Kirkus Reviews Best Book, and a BookPage Best Book. The event is an opportunity to meet Chris Bohjalian and hear him talk about this extraordinary book. Copies of “The Sandcastle Girls” are available to borrow from the Library, and copies of the book, along with other Bohjalian titles “Close Your Eyes”, “Hold Hands”, and “Light in the Ruins” will be available to purchase at the March 25 event.
