Local youth take action to support Bread for Life

Lauren Marziarz, left, and her daughter, Lindsay, deliver chocolate covered pretzels to the Bread for Life kitchen.  Southington youth continue to be active in showing their support for Bread for Life and the people it serves. Initiatives during the recent holiday season included food collections and baking special treats. According to a press release from Bread for Life, there were at least three holiday projects supported by local youth. Flanders Elementary School students collected more than 300 boxes of cereal over the course of several weeks to be given to those in need. The students, parents, staff and friends coordinated this project with the support of Principal Patricia Mazzarella. Southington resident Lauren Marziarz brought her daughter, Lindsay, to the soup kitchen to deliver chocolate covered pretzels she had made, which provided special treats for clients. Ani DiCroce and a group of friends have been baking homemade goods, including cookies, cinnamon buns and bread, approximately once a month to be distributed to people at the soup kitchen and those who are homebound. “Such generosity could not go unnoticed, especially at this time of year,” said Eldon Hafford, executive director of Bread for Life, in a press release. “We are so thankful for all the youth of our town who give so much time and effort to help […]
