Mayor declares state of emergency; Emergency Operation Center activates at 6 p.m.

Mayor Ken Cockayne is declaring a State of Emergency and is activating the city’s Emergency Operations Center effective at 6 p.m. today, January 26, 2015.  A parking ban went into effect today at noon and will continue until further notice.  All City administrative offices, including the Senior Center and Bristol Public Library will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 27.  The Public Works Transfer Station will also be closed on Tuesday. The impending Winter Storm is expected to produce heavy snowfall, dangerous wind and traveling hazards.  Governor Malloy has ordered a travel ban beginning at 9 p.m. tonight.  Residents are advised to stay off the roads to allow plow crews to work. This storm may potentially cause power outages throughout the State and City.  Power outages should be reported to your power company.  If you encounter any downed power lines, please stay clear of that area and call 9-1-1.  The Fire Department is also asking all residents to help maintain fire Hydrants by keeping the area clear and marking their location.
