According to the Associated Press, state officials said a Bristol police sergeant was forced to shoot an aggressive bear to prevent it from attacking him and a local resident. Officials with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection told WVIT-TV (http://bit.ly/19CLiGG ) that the sergeant shot the bear Sunday evening and it was euthanized a short time later. Police responded to a home near the intersection of Lincoln Street and Mooreland Road at about 7 p.m. after a resident reported that the bear was acting in a threatening manner. The DEEP says the sergeant had to shoot the bear when it appeared it was going to attack him and the resident.
