At the Democratic Town Committee tonight, May 28, Chris Wilson, a former Republican and currently chair of the Bristol Board of Education, will be announcing his intent to run for mayor this November. Wilson made the announcement of his intent to run via a press release Tuesday morning. With Art Ward opting to retire rather than run again, it opened up the field in the Democratic party for a replacement. Wilson recently switched parties, which set forth rumors that he was considering a run for the city’s top office. If endorsed by the Democrats, Wilson may be running against Republican councilor Ken Cockayne. Cockayne, who is the only announced Republican candidate, still awaits the GOP endorsement in Bristol.
