Plainville hosting household hazardous waste collection

On May 4, residents of member towns in the Tunxis Recycling Operating Committee (TROC) region will have the opportunity to bring Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) to the Tunxis Recycling Operating Committee (TROC) Household Hazardous Waste Collection. The HHW collection will be held on Saturday, May 4 at the Plainville Roadways Garage, on 23 Granger Lane off of Route 177 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents of Plainville, Berlin, Bristol, Burlington, Meriden, New Britain, Plymouth, Prospect, Southington and Wolcott may bring their household hazardous waste to the collection site free of charge.  Identification will be required as proof of residency.  No waste from businesses will be accepted. Items to be accepted include: pesticides and poisons, herbicides and weedkiller, oil-based paint, paint thinners, varnish, rechargeable batteries, automotive batteries and lubricants, antifreeze, waste oil, gasoline, kerosene, hobby and photographic chemicals, pool chemicals, household cleaners and disinfectants, fertilizers, fluorescent bulbs and mercury-containing thermostats. Items that cannot be accepted include: latex paint (including acrylic), medical waste, medicines & drugs, smoke detectors, tires, propane tanks, computers and electronic equipment, appliances, bulky waste, explosives, fire extinguishers, empty containers — and waste from any businesses.
