There are already several teams returning to take the plunge, but the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA is still looking for volunteers for the 10th annual YMCA Polar Plunge on Saturday, Jan. 17. The event already includes teams from across the community with groups representing the YMCA, the Southington Police Department, the Southington Fire Department, the Southington Board of Education, the Calvanese Foundation, Lake Compounce, and local politicians and civic leaders. The feature team for the 2015 event is ‘Milestones for Melanie,’ a group formed in memory of the late Melanie Rossini. Cost is $100 per person, and all proceeds from the event go towards the YMCA Annual Strong Kids Campaign, which provides YMCA Camp Sloper summer scholarships for local children. Check-in will be at the YMCA camp office in the McLeod Pavilion, from 12:30 p.m.-1 p.m, on the day of the event.
