By Lindsay Carey Staff Writer A Southington hair salon is offering pink hair extensions for $5 during the month of October for breast cancer awareness month. All of the proceeds from the hair extensions go to the Susan G. Komen Fund. Jillian & Company Owner Jillian Labrie said that by the second of the month she had already raised $200. Labrie said that she has been offering pink hair extensions to her clients every October for the past five years. However, this is the first year she owns her own salon. Labrie originally created this fundraiser, because breast cancer is a cause that is close to home. “It runs in my family,” said Labrie. “It’s really important to me and it’s just a great cause.” According to Labrie, her mom and her aunt were both diagnosed with breast cancer the same week. To support her family and the cause, Labrie has also participated in fundraisers like breast cancer walks.
