Restaurants vie to have the best pizza in town at chamber event

By Lindsay Carey Staff Writer Pizza enthusiasts everywhere, mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 26. The Southington Chamber of Commerce Women is holding its fifth annual Pizza Fest at Northridge Golf Course, formerly Pine Valley, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. It’s an event for those who consider themselves a pizza connoisseur or those looking for a new favorite pizza restaurant in town. With over 10 pizza restaurants participating, attendees can sample a slice from each restaurant. Pizza fest is a competition as well and the public gets to help choose the winners. Each restaurant will be judged in two categories, best overall and most original. Attendees are invited to cast ballots for their favorite pizzas. In addition, a panel of local judges will also help choose the winners, which will be announced at the commencement of the event. The 2014 Pizza Fest judges will be Observer Editor Ed Harris, Town Manager Garry Brumback, Town Councilor Dawn Miceli, State Rep. Dave Zoni and Bristol Press Publisher Mike Schroeder. Last year, Italian restaurant Bonterra won best overall pizza. However, the restaurant is no longer in business.
