By Lindsay Carey Staff Writer Greenskies Renewable Energy LLC will construct solar panels at Plantsville Elementary, South End Elementary, Hatton Elementary and a landfill in town to create energy from sunlight. Greenskies, a solar energy developer, will finance, develop, build and maintain the solar panels, at no cost the town. The company will then sell the created energy to the town at a reduced rate. Greenskies Sr. Vice President Andrew Chester said that this is a way for the town to “realize an immediate savings.” Board of Education Chairman Brian Goralski said he is excited about the opportunity and the potential savings for the town.. Goralski also discussed the educational opportunities a project like this can open up. “We’ll be able to show the kids how energy is saved,” said Goralski. Once installed the Board of Education is interested in teaching students how the panels create energy and ultimately benefit community. The project at Plantsville Elementary is set to begin in the fall. However, the rest of the projects will not begin until spring 2015.
