After early lead, Plainville can’t hold on

By MICHAEL LETENDRE STAFF WRITER WEST HARTFORD – The Plainville American Legion baseball team finally played its first Zone 7 game on Wednesday, June 18 as Post 33 battled West Hartford. The Plainville outfit had an early lead in the showdown but in the end, West Hartford notched six straight runs on its way to a 7-4 Zone 7 victory from Hall high school in West Hartford. The loss dropped Post 33 to 2-7 on the campaign while West Hartford moved to 1-0 in Zone 7 play. Plainville certainly had chances in this one but the early offense by the home team doomed Post 33 as the squad had to play catch-up for the rest of the evening. Rob Pezzulo absorbed a tough loss as he went two innings, giving up six runs. He only gave up three earned runs and yielded just five hits during his stint on the mound. Pezzulo walked three and struck out two in the losing effort. Matt Sauvron came in to relief Pezzulo and had a credible outing in four innings of work.
