By Lindsay Carey Staff Writer With people barbecuing on the grill and experimenting with their gardens this summer, the Southington Library has made the theme of their Adult Summer Reading programs food. The first two events to kickoff the “Tasteful Reads” programs will fuse culinary talent and literary knowledge. On Thursday June 26 at 6:30 p.m., there will be a reading and book signing of “Classic Diners of Connecticut” by author Garrison Leykam. The book covers a vast number of diners in Connecticut, their histories and the best diner food to order throughout the state. Leykam is a diner connoisseur and is well known from hosting and producing the show “Diners” broadcast by Connecticut Public Television, which follows motorcycle bikers and their interest in diners. The second kickoff event for “Tasteful Reads” is the Edible Books Contest on June 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. Contestants of the Edible Books Contest will create some edible artwork, which represents a book or literary character. Amazon gift cards will be given out to the winners of the following categories: Best Representation of a Book, Best Cover or Title, Best Character, Best pun on a title and People’s Choice, which everyone in attendance [...]
