The association maintains five main trails and several side paths throughout the 29 acres of wetland. “Kern Park is 29 acres of wetland habitat rich in bio-diversity,” explained Mary Rydingsward, Kern Park Association co-chair, in a press release. “The wetlands of Kern Park are vital to preventing flooding throughout the Ivy Drive School neighborhood and along Route 6.  Acting as a natural sponge, wetlands store up to 1.5 million gallons of water per acre”, said Carl Swanson, president of the Pequabuck River Watershed Association, in a press release.
